After a break of five years we were finally able to meet and greet our French friends here in Botley. The party of 39 arrived at the Botley Centre at 10pm on Thursday 18th May 2023 to be collected by their English hosts.
Friday 19th May saw us take the visitors for a glorious day at Beaulieu Motor Museum where the wide range of attractions were gleefully enjoyed.
Saturday 20 May was spent in the company of the English hosts with a range of activities with the day being rounded off with a Reception and meal in the new Boorley Green Community Hall. Everyone took their turn in singing the notorious group singing of 'Margeurite' culminating with a little traditional Breton dancing.
Great fun was had by everyone throughout the weekend but there were a few bleary eyes when we had to return our guests to the Botley Centre at 6am or their return journey to France.

We look forward to arranging a return visit to St Jean Brévelay in 2026.

French visit May 2025

This picture shows the Twinning members and guests on our visit to Amberley Museum in May 2025
On Thursday 28 May 2025, a group of 46 French visitors arrived in Botley for their bi-annual visit. The group included 10 children with ages ranging from 6 to 14 and several older teenagers. To think that post covid lockdown we were worried that our Twinning partnership would fold!
The party arrived at 10.30pm on the Thursday and left at 6am on Sunday 1 June, but we certainly kept them busy in between. On Friday we took most of the group to Amberley Museum in Sussex and were delighted that Councillor Chris Cooper from Botley Parish Council was able to join us. Councillor Janine Stone is our current official representative from Botley Parish Council.
On Friday evening and Saturday daytime the visitors spent time with their host families, with trips to local sights and trying our English food, including a visit to the D Day Museum in Portsmouth followed by a fish and chip lunch.
Saturday evening saw the regular social gathering at the Botley Centre. The weather was kind to us so we were able to serve Pimm's and nibbles before returning to the hall for a fabulous buffet supplied by "Debbie's Kitchen". Following the food, the traditional singing of "Marguerite aimait bien les oiseaux" (Margarite loves the birds), a curious
French ditty song, first performed at our premier visit to France in 1995! This was followed by everyone joining in with tradition Breton dancing and the Hokey Cokey and a conga!

We bade everyone a fond farewell at 6am the next morning, there were a few bleary eyes. Roll on our return trip to St Jean Brevelay in 2026.
